COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson's Denis Porcic is the third seed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle Cup this week at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
Porcic -- who is one of four men seeded in the tournament -- faces San Diego Christian's (Calif.) Aliaksandr Meliuk at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday, Oct. 12.
Porcic was one of seven regional winners to earn an automatic bid into the national championship. An at-large invite rounds out the eight-man field.
Porcic punched his ticket to the championship site with a 6-3, 6-1 win over teammate Ivan Solans Diaz in the ITA Southeast Regional on Sept. 24 in Georgetown, Ky.
Meliuk won the West Regional with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Arizona Christian's Daniel Superlano in his regional finals.
According to the ITA website, the ITA Oracle Cup has history dating back to 1986, and it is the only singles and doubles national championship event for the Division II and NAIA levels. This year, more than 8,000 players took part in a total of 60 regional tournaments to gain entry into the ITA Oracle Cup field.
Competition begins on Thursday at 10 a.m. CT.
