COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson football has been picked to win the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division according to the MSC Preseason Coaches' Poll, conference officials announced on Thursday.
The Blue Raiders received 36 total voting points from the head coaches within the West Division, including six of the seven first-place votes. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.
Georgetown (Ky.) is second in the Bluegrass with 30 voting points, including the final first-place vote. Bethel (Tenn.) is third in the poll with 24 voting points followed by Campbellsville (Ky.) with 21 voting points.
Cumberland (Tenn.) garnered 19 voting points for fifth in the poll while Kentucky Christian and Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) complete the poll with 11 and six voting points, respectively.
The Mid-South begins its first season of three divisions on the heels of this past summer's expansion. Twenty football teams now call the Mid-South home -- the largest conference in all of collegiate football.
Reinhardt (Ga.) is the favorite in the Appalachian Division while Southeastern (Fla.) is picked to win the Sun Division.
Lindsey Wilson finished 2016 with a program-record 11 wins and a No. 8 national ranking. The Blue Raiders remained No. 8 in the 2017 NAIA Football Coaches' Top-25 Spring Poll released in April.
Lindsey Wilson posted an 11-2 record last season en route to making its third-straight appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series. The Blue Raiders fell in the national quarterfinals at Baker (Kan.) -- the eventual national runner-up.
Lindsey Wilson opens the 2017 season at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, August 26, against St. Andrews (N.C.) at Blue Raider Stadium.
