COLUMBIA, Ky. – The national office announced the qualifiers for the 2017 NAIA Wrestling National Championships on Tuesday and 11 Blue Raiders are among those headed to Topeka, Kansas for the event.
Chad Lampe (125 pounds), Isaiah Frank (149), Colton Gonzalez (174) and Ameer Daniels (285) all received national at-large bids into the field and join Brady Moser (133), Daniel Leonard (149), Cam Tessari (157), Diorian Coleman (165), Cole Overman (165), Rhodes Bell (174) and Matt Walker (184), who each received automatic bids after finishing third or better at the MSC Championships/NAIA East Qualifier over the weekend.
The 11 selections are one below the maximum. Only Grand View (Iowa), Indiana Tech and Oklahoma City had 12 wrestlers qualify.
Each weight class features at least 20 wrestlers with an event-high 27 grapplers competing for the 125-pound, 149-pound and 165-pound titles.
Preliminary brackets will be announced Friday.
The NAIA National Championships, presented by USA Wrestling-Kansas, takes place March 3 – 4 at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kan. The first of four sessions is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. CT on March 3.
