COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team won eight of 10 bouts en route to a 41-9 Mid-South Conference dual victory over Truett-McConnell (Ga.) at Biggers Sports Center on Wednesday night.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders earn a share of the MSC regular season championship. Cumberlands (Ky.) joins Lindsey Wilson as regular season co-champions as both teams finished with 8-1 records in MSC action.
LWC has captured at least a share of the conference's regular season crown in each of the previous six seasons.
The Blue Raiders feasted on bonus points against the Bears, collecting them in all eight victories. Lindsey Wilson picked up two forfeit, two pinfalls, one technical fall and three major decisions on Wednesday.
Lindsey Wilson jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after two bouts thanks to consecutive major decisions.
Colt Olinde scored an 18-10 major decision victory over Cory Garrison at 125 pounds to start the dual. Olinde came out firing, leading Garrison 12-3 after the first period.
Brady Moser kept the momentum going with a 10-2 major decision over Devonte Upshaw in the 133-pound match.
The Bears got on the board with a decision at 141 pounds. The bout was tied at 3-3 in the late stages of the third period, but Joe Hulen scored a last-second takedown to defeat Lucas McCain, 5-3.
Following the defeat at 141 pounds, Lindsey Wilson rattled off six-consecutive victories.
Daniel Leonard (ranked No. 9 at 149 pounds) began the flurry with a 27-11 technical fall against Drake Barnes at 149 pounds.
The Blue Raider run continued with back-to-back pins at 157 and 165 pounds.
Rhodes Bell (No. 10 at 174 pounds) scored the Blue Raiders' third and final major decision on the night, 14-5, over Darrell Duggan to give Lindsey Wilson a 29-3 lead.
Consecutive forfeits at 184 and 197 pounds pushed Lindsey Wilson's edge to 41-3.
Truett-McConnell ended the match with an injury default victory at heavyweight.
Wrestling continues its season on Feb. 18, when it travels to Bowling Green, Kentucky to compete in the MSC Championships/NAIA East Qualifier.
