Six Blue Raiders finish with multiple-hit day

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- The Lindsey Wilson College baseball team lost a slugfest today falling 10-8 to No. 3-ranked Lee (Tenn.) University at Olympic Field.

The Blue Raider offense produced 15 hits for the second straight day, but stranded 13 runners en route to falling to 4-4 on the season.

Lindsey Wilson -- playing its eighth straight game against a nationally-ranked opponent -- wasted little time denting the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.

Lindsey Wilson's Adam Peacock's double plated Drew Barrett and Tyler Bernard -- following their singles -- to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead. Peacock finished 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.

Lee (13-2) answered with a run in the first, two in third and five in the fourth to take a commanding 8-2 lead through four innings. Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher Darren Travers (0-1) allowed all eight runs on 12 Lee hits in a losing effort.

The Blue Raiders began their comeback attempt with a run in sixth inning as Leandro Perez's two-out single scored Jeff Kerian to cut the lead to 8-3. Perez had two hits in six at-bats while driving in one run.

After Lee scored in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 9-3, the Blue Raiders scored four times in the seventh to close within 9-7.

Bernard -- who had two hits in the game -- began a string of five straight singles to lead the charge. Manuel Alonso, Kerian and Lance Harrington each drove in a run during the inning.

Lindsey Wilson climbed within a run in the top of the eighth inning as Bernard scored his third run of the day on Alonso's infield grounder. But, the Blue Raiders were unable to push the tying run -- which was standing on third base with one out -- across the plate.

Lee extended its lead to 10-8 after Corey Davis led off the inning with a double and scored on Mike Moore's single. Davis and Moore combined for six hits, four runs and five RBIs in the game.

The Blue Raiders once again gave themselves a chance in the top of the ninth inning.

Dustin Murphy -- who had two hits -- and Perez reached on one-out singles in the inning and moved over into scoring position with two outs. But, Bernard's shot up the middle was gobbled up by Lee shortstop Edmanuel Rivera for the game-ending out.

Lee starting pitcher Jose Samayoa picked up his second win of the season allowing three runs on six hits in his six innings of work.

Lindsey Wilson's Jeremy Greene and Daniel Pulliam provided solid relief of Travers as the pair combined to allow just two runs -- one earned -- on six hits in four innings of work.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 25 as the Blue Raiders host Iowa Wesleyan University at Egnew Park. At Noon CT, Iowa Wesleyan faces Union (Ky.) College in first game of the day.
