JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- In the first race of the 2010 collegiate mountain-bike season at Eastern Tennessee State University, Lindsey Wilson College's Brandon Hopkins and Madison Pitts finished first in their respective "A" level mountain cross races. Overall, seven Blue Raiders riders completed first-place finishes.

"We wanted to race out of conference so we could practice on courses much closer in nature to a layout we will see at nationals and compete against some of the top teams that will be at Nationals this year," Lindsey Wilson head coach David Grigsby explained. "The team was simply amazing.

Saturday produced a win on the short track from Reed Bagley who finished first in the men's "C" and a second-place finish from Jonathan Freter.

Brooke Crum won the women's "B" downhill, showing she has much more in her arsenal than simply being an endurance rider.

Lindsey Wilson was most dominant in the four-cross races. While it was the first ever four cross for all the Blue Raider men's and women's "B" racers, both men's and women's finals were full of Lindsey Wilson finishers.

After the fastest qualifier, new Blue Raider Danny Caluag, crashed in his opening round, Hopkins took over and ruled the men's "A". Pitts, who podiumed at nationals last year made winning look easy in the women's "A".

Sunday was the cross-country race and again, Bagley brought home the win.

The other races were plagued with mechanical errors and crashes but Christopher Bogedin held on for a seventh-place finish in the men's "A" which was stacked with national-podium level talent.

Three other Blue Raiders hovered around the top 10 in Mitch Gantz, Drake Lindsey, and Taylor Ladd until mechanical issues and crashes took them out of the running.

"I was so proud of everyone as they suffered and persevered through some really tough racing and competition," Grigsby said.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Sept. 4-5 at the Ripon (Wis.) College Mountain Bike Race in Ripon, Wis.
