Women's track & field finished third at the Mid-South Conference Championships on Saturday.

RIO GRANDE, Ohio. -- A sweep of all three podium spots in the 5,000-meter race walk helped the Lindsey Wilson College women's track & field team to a third-place finish at the Mid-South Conference Championships on Saturday at the University of Rio Grande (Ohio).

Shorter (Ga.) University won the conference championship with 257 team points, while the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) finished in front of the Blue Raiders in second place with 159 points.

The race-walking trio of Nicole Furnish (25:54.81), Amanda Johnson (28:01.72) and Chelsea Conway (28:39.44) finished first through third respectively, racking up 24 points towards the team total.

Sherria Hester finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.32 seconds and third in the 200-meter dash with a showing of 25.52 seconds.

Kristina Wimsatt was busy on the championship's final day, competing in three events. Wimsatt placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.77 seconds and seventh in the triple jump with an effort of 9.35 meters.

Wimsatt teamed with Omni Morgan, Ruth Olson and Sherria Hester to take fourth place in the 4 X 100 relay with a time of 49.26 seconds.

Distance runner Alicia Mattingly crossed the line in fifth place in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:31.91, while Monicah Maiyo also finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:32.74) and Ruth Olson finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.63).

Olson also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 17.13 seconds to take seventh place, while Ariel Lyles finished sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 14:22.41.

Hester was named the MSC Freshman of the Year, while Furnish and Wimsatt earned all-conference honors for their first-place finishes.

Johnson, Mattingly, Sharon Ronoh and Candace Young earned academic all-conference honors for maintaining a 3.25 GPA with a sophomore or above standing.
