COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College baseball team swept a doubleheader today against Brescia (Ky.) University at Lindsey Wilson Park.
The Blue Raiders needed extra innings in the opener winning 6-5 in nine innings. LWC completed the sweep with a 6-2 win in the nightcap. Lindsey Wilson improves to 24-18 on the season, while Brescia falls to 14-23.
In the opener, both teams posted a four-run inning early in the game.
Brescia grabbed a 4-1 lead with its big inning in the second. Lindsey Wilson responded with a four-spot in the third inning to take a 5-4 advantage.
The Bearcats tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh sending the game to extra frames.
Lindsey Wilson senior Zach Prichard's bases loaded single sent the Blue Raiders to their sixth win in seven games with the 6-5 win.
Drew Barrett drove in three runs in the game and senior Max Rhodes added a pair of hits and two RBIs.
Sophomore Jeremy Greene picked up the win in relief allowing just one hit over his 2-2/3 innings of work. Senior Cody Wales allowed five runs -- one earned -- on seven hits in the first 6-1/3 innings.
In the nightcap, the Blue Raiders broke open a 1-1 game with a pair of runs in the fifth and three more in the six en route to the 6-2 win. The win is their 20th at home this season.
Garrett Helm led the Blue Raider charge with three hits and three runs in the finale. Barrett added a pair of hits.
Junior Jose Castro picked up the win allowing two runs on nine hits. He struck out five Bearcat batters in his six-plus innings of work. Senior Luis Parra finished off the game with a scoreless seventh inning.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 14, as the Blue Raiders host Mid-Continent (Ky.) University at Lindsey Wilson Park.
