Baseball - Fri, Apr 2, 2010

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Luis Parra allowed just four hits and struck out three batters to help the Lindsey Wilson College baseball team register a 3-1 win against St. Catharine (Ky.) College in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday at Lindsey Wilson Park.

The Patriots won the opener 4-2 behind the pitching of starter Travis Adams who finished the complete game with six strikeouts, while scattering seven hits.

Second baseman Heath Barnes paced the offense in the Lindsey Wilson (16-15, 4-10 MSC) win, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Barnes finished the day a combined 3-for-7 at the plate. First baseman Zach Prichard (1-for-3) also scored a run in the win.

Despite a home run by center fielder Dustin Murphy in the first inning, Lindsey Wilson couldn't hold on to its 1-0 lead for long as St. Catharine (24-14, 9-5 MSC) bounced back with a tying run in the third. The teams matched each other in the fifth, scoring one reach each, before the Patriots put the game away with a two-run seventh.

After falling behind 1-0 in the third inning of game two, the Blue Raiders responded with two runs in their half of the inning. Those scores would be all it took to beat St. Catharine as the Patriots failed to score again on Parra, while the Blue Raiders added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at noon CT on Saturday, April 3 for two more games against St. Catharine at Lindsey Wilson Park.
