PERRY PARK, Ky. -- In its first tournament of spring, the Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team sits in third place following the opening round of the Northern Kentucky University Spring Fling at Perry Park Golf Resort.

In an effort to beat heavy rains forecasted for Sunday's second round, the 23-team field started round two upon completion of today's opening round. Playing until darkness the field completed 2/3 of the second and final round with completion of the final six holes scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. CT on Sunday.

Lindsey Wilson shot a team-total of 311 in its first 18 holes. The Blue Raiders trail NCAA Division II and host Northern Kentucky (308) by three strokes and DII University of Indianapolis (Ind.) (309) by two strokes.

Lindsey Wilson junior Chelsey Key leads the Blue Raiders following her opening round 74 (36-38). Key finished the day with one birdie and three bogeys over the 5,811-yard, par 72 resort course.

Key enters the final round one stroke off the individual lead shared by Northern Kentucky's Lyndsey Bevil and Concord (W.Va.) University's Nicole Shaw who both shot 73.

Lindsey Wilson senior Jessica Smith fired an opening round 78 (39-39) and sophomore Paola Gonzales shot a 79 (41-38). Senior Krista Burton (37-43) and freshman Kelsey Joslyn (37-43) each shot 80 to round out the team scores.

A pair of Blue Raiders teed up as individuals. Senior Cheslee Stone shot 80 (39-41) and freshman Jennifer MacKinnon finished with an 85 (44-41).

The final round continues at 7 a.m. CT on Sunday at Perry Park Golf Resort.
