COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis team opened its season winning 2-of-3 doubles matches against Shorter (Ga.) College before losing all four singles matches and the match 5-2 on Thursday at the Lindsey Wilson tennis courts.
Andrews Moraes and Andre Santos outlasted Shorter's Badr Cherradi and Luis Quintero 9-8 (7-5) at No. 1 doubles and Freddy Luciani and Marlon Dalpont defeated Bastien Russo and Joshua Jones 8-2 at No. 2 to give the Blue Raiders a 2-1 advantage after doubles play.
Singles, however, were not as successful as Lindsey Wilson took three of its four losses in three sets. Luciani lost a battle at the No. 2 seed to Quintero 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 while Dalpont was dropped by Russo 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4. Lindsey Wilson's Antoine Pourin lost to Langeard Thibault 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 5 seed.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at noon CT on March 9 at Union (Ky.) College.
