COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team lost to Mid-South Conference foe Campbellsville (Ky.) University 3-0 (13-25, 18-25, 18-25) Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders struggled to a .015 team hitting percentage with 22 attack errors, while Campbellsville (25-8, 10-2 MSC) posted a .209 mark to take control of the match.
Junior Racheal Achieng led Lindsey Wilson (7-23, 6-5 MSC) with eight kills on 22 attack attempts for a .182 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kayla Koerber was second on the team with five kills.
Three Blue Raiders finished the match with double-figures in digs. Freshmen Andrea Taylor and Ashlie Haworth led the trio with 15 and 12 digs, respectively, followed by sophomore Rachael Anderson with 10.
Senior Sarah Kline dished out team high's in assists with 16 and service aces with two.
Lindsey Wilson suffered from slow starts in all three sets. Despite picking up the opening point of the match, the Blue Raiders quickly fell behind 5-1 after committing four errors over the next five points.
After an attack error by Haworth, the Tigers had built a 10 point lead (21-11), allowing them to cruise to the first-set win.
A pair of Tiger kills, coupled with another Lindsey Wilson error put Campbellsville out front 3-0 at the start of the second set. This time, however, the Blue Raiders responded to the challenge and took an 8-6 lead after a thundering kill by Koerber.
Campbellsville roared back to tie the game at 9-9 and took control of the set once again. After enjoying a short-lived two point lead, the Blue Raiders found themselves trailing 18-12 late in the set as Campbellsville continued to the 25-18 win.
The third set stayed close through the half-way point of the frame, as Lindsey Wilson trailed just 14-10. Then Campbellsville struck with a pair of kills to push ahead 16-10 as it began its rally to take the 25-18 decision.
Campbellsville was led by sophomore Shannon Cahill with 11 kills and 17 digs. Junior Caroline Martin collected a match-high 24 assists, while freshman Caitlin Dressing posting a match-high 25 digs.
The Blue Raiders return to action at 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 27 for senior night against Pikeville (Ky.) College at Biggers Sports Center.
